Being part of the restoration of Mostert's Mill, the last operational windmill in Africa, was a project close to our hearts. When a devastating fire swept through in 2021, causing extensive damage, we felt compelled to lend our expertise. Joining forces with the restoration project management, JNA Thatchers worked tirelessly to bring Mostert's Mill back to its former glory. In 2024, we were overjoyed to see the mill reopen its doors to the public once again.

The interior reveals the masterful craftsmanship behind Mostert's Mill's thatched roof construction. Intricately woven reed thatch creates a golden canopy supported by a robust timber framework, while traditional wooden gear mechanisms demonstrate the mill's authentic heritage construction. JNA Thatchers' restoration expertise ensures this historic thatching work maintains its original character and functionality for future generations to appreciate.
The aerial perspective showcases Mostert's Mill's distinctive thatched conical roof, meticulously restored using traditional Cape thatching techniques. The weathered reed thatch contrasts beautifully against the white-painted stone walls, while the iconic windmill blades stand proudly against the surrounding landscape. This heritage thatching project represents JNA Thatchers' commitment to preserving South Africa's architectural legacy through authentic restoration methods and premium natural materials that honour the mill's historical significance.
